Kaylan practices exclusively in the area of divorce and family law matters. Kaylan understands the difficulties and emotional struggles her clients face when going through the dissolution of a marriage and other family related issues. Kaylan works diligently for her clients to ensure their legal rights are protected and strives to achieve the best possible outcome for each unique case. While each client’s case is different, Kaylan recognizes the alternatives to going to court are often a better solution to these matters, especially when children are involved, and she will present the various legal options available to her clients such as mediation and the collaborative law process.
Kaylan has been trained in the collaborative law process by an internationally recognized pioneer of the practice of collaborative divorce and such training has taught Kaylan the value of reducing conflict and tailoring a resolution that will work for each individual family.
Kaylan recognizes that there are cases where litigation is necessary and compromise is not an option. In the event her client’s case must go to court, Kaylan offers the necessary experience and attention to detail that makes her a resilient courtroom advocate for her clients.
Kaylan graduated from Wake Forest University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. After graduating from Wake Forest, Kaylan worked as a paralegal for two years in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in the area of products liability litigation. Kaylan then pursued her law degree at Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, North Carolina, and graduated in 2011 with her Juris Doctorate. Kaylan has been licensed to practice law in North Carolina since 2011. Kaylan worked as a family law attorney at another Charlotte law firm for three and a half years prior to joining Collins Family Law Group.
Kaylan is an active member of the Mecklenburg County Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, and Charlotte Women Attorneys. Kaylan has served on the Board of Charlotte Women Attorneys for several years, first on the Community Service Committee and now on the Fighting for Women with Fashion Committee. Kaylan provides pro bono legal services through the Legal Representation Program of Safe Alliance, which offers representation to domestic violence victims seeking protective orders. In addition, Kaylan serves as a Volunteer Attorney through the Custody Advocacy Program of the Council for Children’s Rights where she represents children in highly contested custody cases. Kaylan is an active volunteer with Girls on the Run of Charlotte and served as an Assistant Coach at Collinswood Elementary.
When not in the office, Kaylan enjoys spending time with her family, her fiancé, Chad, and her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Morty. As a sports fanatic, she enjoys cheering on her Carolina Panthers and religiously watching college basketball.
